Moses page 31 by ric gustafson
Moses sat on a rock and looked toward the mountain of Horeb. With tears in his eyes, he looked up toward heaven. " Oh God tell me want you want me to say to your people". When he had finished praying, he heard God's voice.
" Tell the people that I brought them out of Egypt and if they keep my covenant, they will always be my treasure".
Moses returned to camp and told the people what God had just told him.
The people cried out. " We will listen and obey".
The people camped near Mount Sinai. One day, a dark cloud descended on the mountain and lightening struck all around. The people were terrified. A voice like a trumpet asked for Moses to come to the top of the mountain. God told Moses to tell the people not to get too close or they will perish. Moses went back down and told the people. Then there was silence.
God spoke to his people. " I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt and out of slavery".
The people listened.
" You shall love no other Gods or make an idol out of anything".
The people listened.
" You shall remember the Sabbath and not misuse the name of the Lord".
The people listened.
" Honor your mother and father and do not commit adultery or steal".
The people fell on their faces.
Then God instructed Moses and Joshua to come up to the top of the mountain and receive tablets of stone containing his laws and commands.
