The book of James was written in 49 AD by James. James was the half brother of Jesus. The letter was written to a Jewish Christian audience. The purpose of the letter was to encourage believers to have an active faith. James was addressing those who had become arrogant and favored the wealthy over others. James reminded them that having faith and doing good things for others was favored by God.
James 2:26 says as the body without the spirit is dead so faith without deeds is dead.
