In July of 1916, a judge stopped claims against White Star. $ 664,ooo was paid out to victims for loss of life and luggage. The price of a life was $30,ooo.
In 1927, White Star was bought by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. In 1933, Cunard bought their rival White Star and the company became White Star Limited.
J Bruce Ismay now led a quiet life and still worked for the London North Western Railroad. He spent summers in Ireland and stayed out of the limelight.
J Bruce Ismay died in October of 1937 and was buried in a cemetery in south London.
April 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking.
