the names of God: Balm of Gilead by ric gustafson
Jeremiah 8:22- ' Is there no balm in Gilead?'
This term refers to God the Father. Gilead is a mountainous area in present day Jordan. This balm is a healing compound produced from a gileadensis tree. In this passage, the prophet is telling Judah they must change their ways or they will use up all their earthly balms with their punishment.
As God's followers, we know that his comfort and healing is far better than any earthly medicine.
