Dr Barnett led me up some stairs. He pointed as he talked. " On this first floor are the pregnant and postpartum patients". He pointed. " At the back of this floor are the delivery area and the nursery".
" Where do the children stay?".
He frowned. " Nowhere in particular, money is always an issue here".
We walked up to the second floor. " It's a lot quieter up here".
" This second and third floors are used for the prostitutes who come in for venereal disease and drinking ailments".
We walked up to the fourth floor where Dr Barnett had his office. We walked in and sat down next to his desk. He took out a pipe, filled it and began to puff on it. A figure stepped into the doorway.
" Dr Siddal, this is Carley Sharp Lady Sharp's granddaughter".
The Doctor smiled. " Carley, I will see you first thing tomorrow morning".
She walked out the front door and toward her carriage. As she reached it, a young man opened the door. " Hello, I am Simon St John and I work at the hospital".
" I'm Carley Sharp and I'm going to be working under Dr Barnett starting tomorrow".
" Nice to meet you".
