Eamon and Julius were walking through the courtyard of the Antonia Fortress. Both of them noticed that they were starting to get hungry. Times were tough for both of their families and work was scarce. As they walked, they noticed a little sign nailed by the entrance door. The sign stated that individuals were wanted to work for Caiaphas the Chief Priest of the Court.
They stepped inside the doorway and stood along an outer wall. As they stood there very quietly, they noticed two long tables with several men standing next to them. Several teachers of the law were there along with some of the priests of the court. Caiaphas stood in the middle of the group and next to him was his servant Malchus.
" This Rabbi from Galilee is stirring up the people with his teachings" yelled one of the teachers of the law. " And the people are believing him".
One of the Pharisees spoke up. " This man corrupts the people with his parables and lies". He frowned at Caiaphas. " He needs to be stopped before he ruins us".
Caiaphas stared at the priest. " How do you propose we do that?".
Another priest spoke up. " We have sent soldiers before to arrest him but to no avail".
Just then, Caiaphas noticed Eamon and Julius standing by the back wall. " You two back there" he said as he pointed a finger at them. " Come forward".
The two slowly walked toward the Chief Priest.

Jesus Calling January 29 by ric Gustafson
Psalm 8:5 says you made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. Jesus says keep your focus on me. He has gifted us with great freedom including the ability to choose. We were made in Jesus's image. When our mind wanders, we need to bring our thoughts back into Jesus's presence. In Jesus's light, our anxious thoughts shrink away. Our confused thoughts can untangle in the peace of Jesus. Jesus will always guard us and keep us in his peace. This will happen when we keep our focus on him always.

The Teacher, Simon, James, John and I were coming out of the synagogue in Capernaum. The Teacher agreed to come over to our house. He was tired after what had just happened. He was teaching and everybody was amazed and thought he was speaking with authority.
All of a sudden, a man with an unclean spirit cried out " what business do we have with each other Jesus of Nazareth". The strange voice hesitated. " Have you come to destroy us?".
The Teacher stared directly at the man. " Be quiet and come out of him".
Violently, the unclean spirit came out. Everyone was amazed and wondered who this man was that even unclean spirits obey him.
Simon and myself were happy that the Teacher was coming to our house. Simon's mother in law was sick in bed with a fever and the Teacher agreed to come over. He entered our house and walked up to the bed with compassion on his face. He raised her up, took her hand and the fever left her. Then she got up and began to wait on us.
That evening, many people who had unclean spirits and who were ill came to the Teacher to be healed.
The Teacher noticed a crowd was gathering. He suggested to his followers that they go to the other side of the Sea. When they reached the other side, a scribe walked up to the Teacher.
" Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go".
The Teacher smiled. " The foxes have holes, the birds have nests but the Son of Man has no where to lay his head".
" Teacher, permit me to go and bury my father" asked one of the Teacher's followers.
The Teacher replied " follow me and allow the dead to bury their own dead".

Matthew 28:20 says that I am with you always to the very end of the age. Jesus is with us always. These were his last words before he ascended into heaven. Jesus tells this promise to all who will listen. To be blessed beyond all expectations, we need to center our lives around this promise. All the pieces of our life will fall into place when Jesus is the center of our life. Our life can be meaningful if we cling to Jesus who is with us always.

the Sound of Music page 2 by ric Gustafson
One night in late November 1959, screenwriter Ernest Lehman watched the Sound of Music on Broadway. As he watched the show, he thought to himself that it could become a successful movie some day. Lehman wrote the script for the 1956 adaptation of the King and I. In the summer of 1960, 20th Century Fox bought the film rights to the Sound of Music. Lehman was hired in 1962.
Lehman's first draft of a screenplay was close to the final version. Two new songs from Rodgers were a new duet called ' Something Good' and ' I Have Confidence'. Lehman developed the character of the Captain played by Christopher Plummer different than the actor thought of the character. Plummer did not care for the Hammerstein song ' Edelweiss' and let the director know that. He wanted further development of his character which included moments between him and Julie Andrews.
Lehman also changed the relationship between Maria and the children. Lehman reassigned musical numbers and further developed the children's characters. The children's love for Maria grew as the story developed. ' My Favorite Things' became Maria's bonding number with the children. ' The Lonely Goatherd' became a puppet show. ' The Lonely Goatherd' and ' Do Re Mi' became grand production numbers. The Baroness played by Eleanor Parker changed several times during the writing process.

In John 16:33 it says that in me you have peace and to be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. This life is not a problem free life. We hunger for a resolution to our difficulties. Jesus said that in this life, you will have trouble. Jesus promises an eternity of problem free living. Instead of seeking perfection in this fallen world, Jesus wants us to pour our energy and time into him. Even though darkness prevails on this earth, Jesus's light shines through it. When things go wrong, Jesus says trust me anyway.

In the 1950's, anyone with a radio could hear the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Broadway's dynamic duo were the toast of Broadway. They have garnered 34 Tony awards and created songs for musicals such as Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific and the King and I.
Mary Martin introduced the Sound of Music to Rodgers and Hammerstein. Martin came across a German film about the von Trapp family. She acquired the rights from a German company for $ 200,000. Martin went to producer Leland Howard who in turn went to authors Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse. Lindsay and Crouse developed a story and Rodgers and Hammerstein worked on songs. The Sound of Music had a Broadway opening in October 1959. It brought lopsided reviews. Hammerstein passed away in August 1960, four months after the show took home four Tonys.
The show ran on Broadway from November 1959 till June 1963.

encounters with Jesus: Mary Mother of God
encounters with Jesus: Mary Mother of God by ric Gustafson
When an angel told sixteen year old Mary that she would give birth to a son, she said " how?". How could she give birth to the Son of God when she was a virgin. The angel said that she had nothing to fear, the Holy Spirit would come upon her. She replied " let it be just as you say".
Mary went to tell her betrothed Joseph what the angel had told her. He wasn't sure what to think until an angel told him the same news.
Joseph told Mary that they had to go to Bethlehem because of a census. When they reached Bethlehem, it was time for Mary to give birth. There was no room anywhere, so they had no choice but to stay in a lowly stable. A boy was born and they named him Jesus. Enraged at the birth of the boy, King Herod ordered that all male babies would be killed. Joseph took Mary and their son to Egypt for three and a half years until the death of Herod.
As Jesus got older, she witnessed miracles and wonders from him. Water into wine at the wedding in Cana and other miracles. She followed Jesus during his ministry and then witnessed his murder on the cross. At one point on the cross Jesus turned toward her. " Woman, here is your son". His disciple John took her to his home.

Matthew 13:45-46 talks about the kingdom of heaven being like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he has found one of great value, he sells everything and buys it. Jesus is talking about his peace being the pearl of great price. It is a costly gift both for the giver and the receiver. Jesus purchased this peace for us at great cost, with his own blood. When life's storms come, Jesus gives us his peace. Jesus's spiritual blessings come wrapped in our trials. Jesus wants us to rejoice in the face of hardship because he has overcome the world.

Agents of the Apocalypse: Agents of the Church by ric Gustafson
What is an agent?. An agent represents another person with the authority to carry out varying kinds of business. Two agents in the Bible are the two witnesses and the 144,000 Jewish evangelists in the Tribulation. The Antichrist and the False Prophet are agents representing Satan.
The original agent was John the Baptist who prepared the way for Jesus. The twelve original disciples were God's agents. The next group of seventy disciples were God's agents.
The two biggest agents for God were Peter and Paul. Peter became the agent apostle to the Jews and Paul was the agent to the Gentiles.
A disciple is a learner and an apostle is a messenger.

I Peter 3:4 talks about the inner self and a gentle quiet spirit. These qualities are of great worth in God's sight. Jesus knows we are human and that our mind wanders. Jesus understands our weaknesses and he is not surprised. He wants us to rejoice in his love which has no limits or conditions. Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. Jesus wants us to bask in the light of his presence. When we are weak, Jesus is always strong.

" Yes, though not as much as I should".
" You do believe in what Revelation 3:20 says".
" Yes I do".
The Prince of Peace smiled at Russell and then pointed toward the stage. " Do you see the two doors on the stage?".
He had the two doors memorized. " Yes I do".
" The first door represents me". Jesus grinned. " My simple message is to simply believe and follow me".
A tear came down Russell's face. " I believe".
" You can take door number 1 and be with me forever". Jesus frowned. " Or you can take door number 2". He smiled at Russell. " The choice is up to you". He glanced at the clock on the wall. " You have five minutes to decide".
The clock music started as Russell bowed his head to pray.
After five minutes, the music stopped.
Jesus looked at Russell with love in his eyes. " Have you made a decision?".
Tears rolled down Russell's face. " Yes I have".
" And what is your decision?". He handed Russell the microphone.
" In the last five minutes, I recommitted my life to God, study his Word more and to spend more time with him". He pointed toward the stage. " I have decided to take door number 1".
" Is that your final decision?".
" Yes".
Jesus stood up smiling and then put his arms around a beaming Russell.
The two of them slowly walked up to the stage and then together walked through the heavy curtain of door number 1.

Agents of the Apocalypse: Agents of the Gospel by ric Gustafson
Jesus's original band of twelve men were called disciples and then apostles. They followed him, sat at his feet and listened to him. As apostles, they went off in power as agents of the Gospel. Let's take a quick peek at these twelve agents of the Gospel. Peter traveled with his wife to far lands sharing Jesus's message. Peter was crucified in Rome upside down. James the brother of John was murdered in Jerusalem by King Herod Agrippa I in A D 44. John the brother of James was exiled to Patmos Island where he received the book of Revelation. Andrew witnessed to modern day Southern Russia where it was said that he was crucified in A D 69. Philip preached to many people and according to tradition was crucified near Colossae and Laodicea. Bartholomew might have spread the Gospel to modern day Turkey and India near Armenia. He may have died by being flayed alive. Thomas went into modern India to spread Jesus's message. It was reported that he was speared to death near the city of Madras. Matthew spread the Gospel to Northeast Africa between Egypt and Ethiopia. It was in this region that he was martyred. James son of Alphaeus witnessed to many and was clubbed and stoned to death. Thaddeus or Jude witnessed in Armenia and India and was martyred near the present day city of Tabriz. Simon the Zealot witnessed to many possibly as far away as Spain and Britain. It was said that he was crucified in Britain in A D 61. Matthias who replaced Judas Iscariot witnessed to many in the East. It was reported that he was martyred.
These twelve men of God were Agents of the Gospel.

Isaiah 55:9 says as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. When we plan each day, we need to remember who is in charge. There will be days when things go smoothly and we may be unaware of God's presence. And then there will be difficult days when we need God more than ever. Jesus says look for me on those days because I am doing something different than you ever expected. Every day good or bad we need to always talk to Jesus. Jesus's ways are far better than ours.
Jesus knows the plans for us and they are always good.

Malchus tried to walk past the meeting room where the heated exchange was taking place.
" Malchus, come here".
He walked into the room to see his master talking to a tall man who was the Captain of the Temple Guard.
" You are back from taking care of my chariot horses".
" Yes master".
" A den of thieves" Caiaphas screamed as he banged a fist on a nearby table. " Jonathan, he called my temple a den of thieves".
" Sire, next time we will catch him".
" How could you have let him go?".
" Sire, by the time I arrived with my men" he replied in a quiet voice. " The incident was already over, he had already disappeared into the crowd and I did not want a riot on my hands".
" There will not be a next time" he sneered at the son of Annas. " I want you to assemble part of the Sanhedrin here tomorrow in my personal court".
He turned toward his young slave. " Malchus, I want you to go to the Temple tomorrow and help make sure this type of incident will never happen again".
" Yes master".

Agents of the Apocalypse: Agents of the Messiah
Agents of the Apocalypse: Agents of the Messiah by ric Gustafson
It says in II Timothy 3:16 that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable. Everything is Scripture is focused on one central theme. That theme is to establish that Jesus Christ is the rightful ruler over all of God's creation. The Bible from the beginning has talked in detail of what is called the ' end times'. The writers of Scripture are agents of the Messiah and his Kingdom. These agents of God's Word are preparing his people for the climax of world history.
It says in Revelation 22:13 that Jesus Christ is the Alpha, the Omega, the Beginning and the End, and the First and the Last.
There were several of God's agents. There was Zechariah foreseeing the coming of Christ as a King. Isaiah prophesying that the Messiah would come as a ruler bringing peace. Micah who saw the Messiah coming as a ruler in Israel. Daniel who saw the coming of the Messiah's Kingdom destroying all other kingdoms. Daniel also saw the final judgment of all humanity.
The purpose of God's agents is written in Amos 3:7. It states that the Lord God does nothing unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets. Through God's prophets, God gives us insights into the past, present and future of his redemptive plan. Jesus, God's Son, told in his Word restores humanity and creation to a condition that brings eternal glory to God.

Romans 8:1 says that in Christ Jesus there is no condemnation. To the depths of our being, Jesus assures us his peace and his love. There will be voices of accusation but Jesus says do not listen to them. These voices of accusation are not from him. Jesus's Spirit does not convict us with words of shame. Jesus asks that his Spirit take charge of our minds and transform them by the truth.
The light of Jesus is shining upon us. Worries and fears interfere with Jesus's light. With Jesus dwelling in us, we are equipped to be holy. At all times, Jesus wants to be in charge of our thoughts, words and behavior.

II Corinthians 4:17 says that our light and troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. In your Christian journey, there will be descents along with ascents. Our sinful urge is to take a shortcut. Jesus says to us not to do that. Our assignment is to follow Jesus and allow him to direct your path.
When things go wrong, we need to trust in Jesus. When we accept trials, God's blessings outweigh the trials. Jesus says hold my hand and he will lead us every day down the right path.

Philippians 4:7 says that the peace of God will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Jesus's face is always shining upon us. Even though we are surrounded by problems, Jesus gives us his peace. We need to always focus on Jesus. When we spend too much time on our own problems, we could sink under those burdens. When those burdens begin to sink us, we need to cry out to Jesus to help us. He will lift us up to safety. When the waves of trouble start to sink us, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus. Jesus is always with us protecting us now and forever.
All we need to do is stay close to him.

The old man looked at the donkey colt and then at the young slave. " Malchus, what do you see?".
" Japhet, I see a donkey colt".
" It is not just a donkey colt my dear Malchus" the old man said as he kissed the forehead of the colt." This donkey colt is the prophecy fulfilled over five hundred years ago by the prophet Zechariah".
" What did the prophecy say?".
" Behold your king is coming humble and mounted on a donkey even on a colt the foal of a donkey".
" What happened today Japhet?".
" The colt was tied to that tie post next to you". He grinned at the young slave. " I was walking by and saw two men untying it".
" You did not know who they were?".
" No" was his quick reply. " I said to them what are you doing?".
" What did they say?".
" That the Lord has need of your animal and it will be returned".
" Then what happened?".
" They left with my colt".
" Later, it came back".
" Yes unharmed". He smiled at Malchus. " They told me that Jesus of Nazareth had ridden on it".
" Jesus of Nazareth" Malchus replied loudly.
" You know of him".
" A little bit based on what my master has told me".
" Well Malchus my boy" the old man exclaimed as tears came flowing down his face. He petted the head of the colt. " Now I believe that the Messiah has come".

He squinted his eyes as he again walked up to the Pharisees. They had asked him to see them a second time.
A Pharisee pointed at him. " We know that this man is a sinner".
" A sinner I don't know". He grinned at them. " What I do know is that I was blind and now I see".
" How did he open your eyes?".
" I told you already and you did not listen". He sighed. " You do not want to become his disciples too do you?".
One of the Pharisees sneered at him. " We are disciples of Moses".
" You do not know this man and yet he opened my eyes". He smiled. " Unless he was from God, he could do nothing".
" You were born in sin and you are teaching us". One Pharisee pointed his arm in furious anger. " Get out of here!".
Later, Jesus heard what the man had said to the religious leaders. He encountered him later that day. " Do you believe in the Son of Man?".
" Who is he that I may believe in him?".
Jesus looked at him with compassion in his eyes. " You have seen him and he is the one talking with you".

Romans 8:38 says that neither death nor life, angels or demons, the present or the future, height nor depth nor anything else can separate us from the love of God. Jesus wants to bless us with grace and peace. To do that we need to open our hearts and minds. Jesus wants to fill us with his peace. Jesus can see straight through us, we can not fool him. He wants to hear of our struggles and feelings of inadequacy. He will transform our weaknesses into strengths. Nothing that we do or don't do can separate us from the presence of Jesus.

Malchus turned the temple chariot off the main road to Jericho and started down a quiet road toward a small village. The tiny village of Bethany was a break from the busyness of Jerusalem. The chariot led by two black Arabians turned onto a dusty lane to a stable called Garden.
Malchus stopped the chariot near some trees by the entrance. He got down and walked to a nearby well. As he drank, he noticed an old man walking toward him holding onto a donkey colt with a rope.
" Malchus, is that you?".
" Yes Japhet it is". The young slave put his hands into his and looked into the old man's eyes. " I have not been here for a while".
The old man smiled. " Your master Caiaphas wants his horses reshod I assume".
" Yes he does" was his reply. He stared at the colt. " Japhet, why are you holding onto that donkey colt like that?".
" Malchus, my boy" the old man exclaimed as tears began to flow down his face. " Let me tell you what happened earlier today".

He went to the Pool of Siloam which was at the southern end of Hezekiah's tunnel. As he slowly washed out his eyes, colors and shapes came back into focus. He also began to notice people around him.
Someone pointed at him. " Isn't this the man who used to beg?".
He replied in a loud voice. " I am he, I am the one".
Another person pointed at him. " How then were your eyes opened?".
He smiled. " The man Jesus made clay, put it on my eyes and said go down to Siloam and wash". He showed them his now open eyes.
" Where is he?".
He shook his head. " I don't know".
The people brought the beggar to the Pharisees.
" How did you receive your sight?".
" This man Jesus applied clay to my eyes, I washed and now I see".
A Pharisee sneered at him. " This man is not from God because he does not keep the Sabbath".
Another pointed a finger at him. " What do you say about him now?".
" He is a prophet".
The Pharisees turned toward the parents. " Is this your son who was born blind but now can see?".
" This is our son who was blind but now can see". The father shook his arms in frustration. " How or why we do not know". The father stared at the Pharisees. " Ask him yourselves".

The blind man sat with the other beggars along the wall. He stretched out his arm with a cup in his hand. " Alms for the blind". He had been sitting there with the others for as long as he could remember. He had been blind since birth and begging was all he knew. He held out his cup. " Alms for the blind, alms for the blind".
One day as he held out his cup, Jesus and his disciples walked by.
One of the disciples spoke up. " Rabbi, who sinned this man or his parents that he would be born blind?".
Jesus looked at them. " Neither the parents or the man sinned but that the works of God might be displayed in him". He smiled at his followers. " As long as I am in this world, I am the light of the world".
The blind man could hear someone quietly walk up to him.
Jesus spat on the ground and made a clay from the spittle.
The blind man could feel something strange being applied to his eyes.
" Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam".

By the end of the last ice age, the traditional supply of salt changed. Because of a changing habitat, livestock needed an external source of salt. Modern milk cows required 80 pounds of salt per year. Cattle needed 6.6 pounds. During the Neolithic period was intense economic and cultural development. Man needed access to land but ownership of it. Man needed laws to protect their work and property. During this period, salt was used for feeding ourselves, livestock, curing and preserving food. Salt became essential to survival. It was the first local food and exotic one. At times salt became currency and a based economy.

Tillie Pierce was born in Gettysburg in 1848. In 1848, the town was a farm based community of about twenty four hundred people. In the summertime, people had picnics and picked berries. In the fall, people harvested and preserved crops. During the winter, people stoked fireplaces to stay warm
Next door to the Pierce's were George and Hettie Shriver. Both houses were two story redbrick townhouses with wood shingled roofs. The main floor of the house contained a parlor for guests and a sitting room where people could gather. The bedrooms were on the second floor and their was also an attic. Each house had a small backyard that faced South Mountain.
George and Hettie were married on January 23 1855 when they were both eighteen. Hettie was one of thirteen children that lived on a farm on Taneytown Road. They had two girls, Sadie and Mollie.
The town of Gettysburg was growing also. It had three newspapers, a telegraph office and a railroad.
In March and April of 1861, growing tension between the Southern and Northern states bothered them.

Some have said that salt curing started during the last ice age 12000 years ago. Neanderthals made use of salt. They used rock salt to feast on woolly mammoth flesh, root vegetables and berries. The Dead Sea and salt springs and sea marshes across Europe and Asia would have provided salt to be put on deer, fish and fruits.
After salting and cooking, curing came next to be discovered. Drying meat was preserved by salt. Homo Sapiens appeared between 150,000 and 300,000 years ago. We have an overbite suited cutting cooked meat rather than tearing and a weak jaw to chew tough foods. Compared with other animals, we have poor sense of smell. We do have refined taste faculties. We can taste and enjoy a wide range of foods.

One of these settlers was an immigrant from Northern Ireland named Samuel Gettys. He bought 381 acres around 1740. In 1761, he built the Gettys Inn and Tavern. In 1783, Samuel's son James Gettys laid out a town and named it Gettystown. MGM in the late 1930's was a film factory. They had four thousand salaried employees and released a film every week. Sixty percent were top product with the Leo the Lion logo. The other forty percent were animated cartoons and short subjects. When Production # 1060 the Wizard of Oz was put on the schedule, there were top notch directors and screen writers available.
Up until 1946, MGM made large profits. When the war ended, movie attendance slumped because of a postwar economy. An antitrust suit against MGM and other studios prevailed and MGM's income greatly suffered. During the 1950's, big budgets and box office duds hurt MGM. The studio system began to crumble and film stars began to form their own production companies. MGM began to sell off it's assets in the 1960's and in 1970 began a public auction.

I walked into my office and sat down at my desk. Because of new orders, work had been busier than normal. I closed my eyes to relax for a moment. I looked up to see a young man with a backpack on. He looked a lot thinner than the last time I saw him.
" Hi Dad". He took off the backpack and put it on the ground.
I stood up, walked around the desk and gave my son a long embrace.
" I'm so sorry Dad" he said as he began to cry. " I'm sorry I disappointed you".
" My son, everything that has happened in the last two years has already been forgiven and forgotten".
" Dad, I was wondering if there was a job available here".
I picked up the phone. " Harry, shut down the machines and have the workers meet me in the break room".
" Why is that Sir?".
" My son has returned home".

Happy Birthday Prodigal Son page 6
Happy Birthday Prodigal Son page 6 by ric Gustafson
I looked out through the glass window of my office. I saw my older son Jeff working very hard as usual. I love Jeff as much as I love Joseph. I worry about him. He has followed in my footsteps and has risen through the ranks at the plant. I worry about him because of his jealousy and anger issues.
He has been going to counseling meetings to help with these issues and his life is getting better. He has a girlfriend now and just moved into an apartment.
His problems started when he got very jealous of his younger brother and also he would get mad at me. He always did good in school and graduated with honors. He became jealous of his brother because he did not graduate from high school and never had to work. He got angry with me for letting Joseph leave home and now he has used up all of his inheritance money.
I feel that Jeff believes that I love Joseph more than him. That is not true. I hope someday he will understand that I love both of them equally. I am waiting for my younger son to return. When he does return, I hope that Jeff will forgive him also.
I love both of them so much.

Happy Birthday Prodigal Son page 5
Happy Birthday Prodigal Son page 5 by ric Gustafson
I walked into my office and tiredly sat down. I closed my eyes to relax. My mind began to wonder about the events of the past two years.
My youngest son Joseph has been gone for two years now. He called yesterday to inform me that he was coming home. He had spent all of his inheritance money and wanted to come home. He had found a job on a pig farm shoveling slop to the hogs. He said he got so hungry that the slop was even looking good.
I love Joseph so much and I hope that he does come home. For two years, I've pondered if I made the right decision to let him leave home to discover himself. At the time, I thought that time away from home would help straighten him out. I' m not sure if that was the best decision or not.
My wife passed away early in my boy's lives so it was up to me to raise them. I built my steel plant from the ground up and I am proud of that. Even with the long hours, I still had time for my sons and their activities.

What's behind Door number 2 page 6
What's behind Door number 2 page 6 by ric Gustafson
" That's right". Russell smiled at Leroy. " All we need to do is simply knock and he will enter and be in charge of our life forever". Then Russell sadly pointed toward the stage. " Or their is Door number 2".
Leroy looked at the two doors.
" Jesus gives you choice eternal life and salvation with Door number 1 or what's behind Door number 2". Russell stood up. " You have five minutes to decide".
The clock music started.
Leroy studied both doors as the music kept playing. After five minutes, the music stopped.
" Leroy, the five minutes is over". He handed him the microphone. " Have you made a decision?".
" Yes, I have".
" And what is your decision?".
Leroy studied the doors one more time and then looked at Russell. " Russell, I gave my life to Jesus years ago". He smiled. " I will take Door number 1".
" And that is your final decision".
" Yes it is".
" Roger, will you please escort Leroy to Door number 1".
Russell's assistant led a tearful and happy Leroy to the Door number 1 curtain. A man in white smiled and led him into it.

Godly Success page 2
Godly Success page 2 by ric Gustafson
Pursuing Godly success is ongoing. It is to seek, establish and accomplish God given goals that are given to us. God wants us to desire to be the person he wants us to be and achieve the goals that God sets out for us. We will never truly achieve success. Godly success is a process. Success grows in us as we mature in Jesus.
The Holy Spirit lets us have great joy and satisfaction as we go along on our journey. God warns us to stay on the path and not to go a different path. When we venture off God's path and onto our own destruction comes. When we do things apart from God, we spend time and energy doing things that will not produce happiness, joy and peace. Without a relationship with God, we are a failure. We are not a success in God's eyes.
We need to have a hunger in our hearts to be more like Jesus. We need to draw closer to the heart of God. We need to study God's truth in his Word. We need to concentrate on bearing more fruit for God.
Godly Success is striving to be the best person God wants us to be.

Godly Success page 1
Godly Success page 1 by ric Gustafson
How do we define success. Some say success is setting a goal and accomplishing it. But God has a different goal in mind. As believers in God, we are the sons and daughters of God. To God, success is not what we do in our lives. Success to God is that we are his children. Success is being who God wants us to be and to accomplish the goals he has for us.
Ungodly people amass material wealth, a certain degree of fame and social status. But they are not truly successful because they pursue their own goals not God's. A God focused person concentrates on God's plan and purpose for their lives. A God focused person is concerned with an eternal purpose that comes with spiritual benefits. Godly character comes from obeying God's commandments and directives.

Russell had a sad look on his face as Sara walked through the curtain of Door number 2. He turned to his right. " Now let's meet today's second contestant". A middle aged man walked out from behind the purple curtain and walked down the stairs toward Russell.
" Our second contestant is from Middle Brook Idaho" Russell said with a smile. " Please welcome Leroy Williams". He handed him the microphone. " Tell us a little bit about yourself".
" Russell, I'm a motel manager and I've been happily married for twenty years". He grinned. " I'm also very active in our church".
" That's great" Russell replied as he was handed back the microphone. " Are you ready to play the game?".
" I sure am".
" Then let's play what's behind Door number 2". Russell opened his bible to Revelation. " Revelation 3:20 says I stand at the door and knock, he who hears my voice and opens the door I will come in and eat with him". " There are two doors on the stage" he said as he pointed upstage. " Do you see them?".
Leroy intently stared at the stage. " Yes, I do".
" Door number 1 is a symbol of the promise made in this passage".
" I started reading the bible a year ago" Leroy said with a grin. " I'm amazed at how simple his offer is".

Happy Birthday Prodigal Son page 4
Happy Birthday Prodigal Son page 4 by ric Gustafson
One day, Joseph asked Father for the investment money that had been invested for him. He wanted to go see the world and experience life. I'm upset at Father for letting him do that. I slave away at the plant, never take any time off and what do I get for it. No matter what I do to get Dad's attention, all he talks about is Joseph.
For the last two years, I have worked hard at the plant and have done all I can to please my father. Every once in a while, Joseph would call and talk to Dad. I don't want to talk to him. I graduated from high school with honors and Joseph did not even graduate. And yet, my father still dotes on him.
I started counseling sessions to help with my jealousy issues. Over the last two years, my life began to settle down. I got my first apartment and girlfriend. Just when my relationship with Dad was getting better, Joseph called. He told Dad that all of his investment money was gone and that he was working on a pig farm. He told Dad that he was tired and wanted to come home. He told Dad that he was starting for home tomorrow.
What will happen next, I don't know.
