In the late 1930's, Mildred Day and Malitta Jensen worked for Kelloggs. For two weeks, they worked on a recipe that would become a popular snack. The recipe was simple just marshmallows, butter and Rice Krispies. The butter and marshmallows were melted and then the Rice Krispies were stirred in. The mixture was poured into a buttered pan and then sat until firm. Then it was cut into squares.Starting in 1941, this recipe appeared on boxes of Rice Krispies cereal and newspaper ads. This tasty treat has become so popular over the years that starting in 1993, Rice Krispies Treats began to be packaged in ready made form.
