Chosen: John 1: 17-18

Chosen: John 1: 17-18 by ric gustafson

The Old Testament is full of strange stories. There is a man swallowing fish. A flood that rebooted the earth. Some stories are difficult to imagine. What is God's purpose in these stories?.
As far as the fish, God wanted to save the sinful broken people of Nineveh. Jonah did not want the job, He tried to flee from God. He was thrown off a boat and swallowed by the fish. Eventually, Jonah did what God wanted him to do.
God asked Noah to build the biggest boat anyone had ever seen. Almost everyone mocked him. People mocked him until the rain came. Rain flooded the earth. Everything not on the boat was wiped out.
Jericho was a fortified city. God told the Israelites to march around the perimeter wall for seven days blowing trumpets. On the seventh day, the walls of the city came crumbling down. It killed everyone except a small number of believers.
The majority of Old Testament stories are about rescue and redemption. Jesus in human form was rebelled against. Jesus provided a way for humanity and us to have redemption.
Jesus gives us grace. Why?. Because Jesus loves us more than anything else.
