the First Thanksgiving page 3

the First Thanksgiving page 3 by ric Gustafson

According to two eyewitness accounts, there was feasting, game playing and good cheer at that First Thanksgiving. There were many wild turkeys, cod, bass and other fish. A large group of Wampanoag warriors joined the celebration. The warriors brought five deer that they had killed. Like now, the first settlers and the warriors gave thanks for their blessings.
The early Pilgrims practiced gratitude. They gave thanks during daily prayers and before each meal. They sang songs about giving thanks. They gave thanks for being able to practice their religion freely. The Pilgrims were Puritans. They gave thanks for surviving the first winter there. They gave thanks for their friendship with the Wampanoag people.
