places in the Bible: Sea of Galilee by ric Gustafson
This ancient region has several names including Lake Tiberias, Sea of Chinnereth and Lake Gennesaret. This region is the largest freshwater lake in Israel. It is 13 miles long and 7 miles wide. It is located in the Jordan Rift Valley. The Sea of Galilee is recorded in Isaiah 9, Mark 1 and John 21.
Much of Jesus's earthly ministry occurred by this region. Several of Jesus's miracles occurred near the region. Today most of Israel's drinking water comes from this region.
