The psalmist is crying out to God. He's sick, unhappy and he is worried that he will be consumed by sorrow. The psalmist is stressed out. He worries that he is not good enough to make the right decisions. He sings out his despair to God. He pleads for God to help him.
Psalm 31 is a psalm of lament.
