the First Thanksgiving page 2

the First Thanksgiving page 2 by ric Gustafson

The first European child born in New England was Peregrine White. It was the son of Susanna and William White. Peregrine was born on the Mayflower. This was late November 1620. Plymouth was chosen by a scouting team to be the Pilgrims permanent settlement. Susanna was one of only 18 Pilgrim wives to come with their husbands on the Mayflower. William White died three months after the birth of his son.
Many of the first Pilgrims died from what was called ' the great sickness'. Many of the first Pilgrims were weak and poorly nourished. In late summer or early autumn of 1621, those Pilgrims who had not died gathered to celebrate the harvest and give thanks.
