places in the Bible: En Gedi

places in the Bible: En Gedi by ric Gustafson

In Hebrew, En Gedi means ' Of the Kid'. En Gedi is the largest freshwater oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. This oasis is on the eastern edge of the Judean Desert. This oasis is 35 miles southeast of Jerusalem. This place is mentioned in I Samuel 24, Song of Songs 1 and Ezekiel 47.
King Saul pursued David all the way to this oasis with the plan of killing him. The oasis is now part of En Gedi National Park.  Four springs feed into this oasis.
