places in the Bible: Ephesus by ric Gustafson
Ephesus means ' City of the Mother Goddess'. The ruins of Ephesus are in western Turkey near the city of Selcuk. This ancient city is mentioned in God's Word in Acts 18 and Revelation 2. Ephesus was settled in the tenth century BC. It contained the Temple of Artemis along with theatres and a aqueduct system. During the Roman era, it was a center of trade and commerce.
The Apostle Paul lived there from AD 65-68. While there, Paul had a dispute with the artisans in the temple. It is believed that the Apostle John lived his last years there caring for Jesus's mother Mary.
