Reme raised his right arm to stop the caravan. He glanced up toward the star. " We stop here". He smiled. " Zele, can you make sure the camels are tied together and give them a little cake of bread".
Reme and Paton sat down on the cold ground. They began to munch on some dates and figs.
" One of the Magi has already headed for home". He frowned. " But he did leave his pouch of gold".
They were so tired, they fell asleep on the hard ground/
They traveled toward the Euphrates and the Syrian Desert. At the Euphrates, they took a camel ford and found a road on the other side. This road would lead them through Roman controlled Syria.
At night, Reme always made sure the bright star was present.
One day, the caravan stopped in Palmyra. Paton fed bread to the camels. " My friend". He smiled. " How far to Jerusalem?".
" Possibly fourteen days". Reme grinned as he tied up the camels. " More than likely twelve".
