What is the origin of the first Christmas tree?. The exact origin is not known. People have decorated trees for centuries. In ancient Rome it was during the festival of Saturn beginning on Dec 17. During the Middle Ages, it was a fir tree decorated with red apples.
Instead of candles, electric lights were introduced to decorate trees. Lights were introduced in 1882. The light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison. Firs, spruces and pines made good trees. Christmas and Christmas trees don't last forever. Some people have one going all year round.
