attributes of God: the goodness of God

attributes of God: the goodness of God by ric gustafson

Psalm 84:11 says for the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord gives grace and glory; no good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Jesus wants to be the master of every area of our lives. God wants to be in charge of our lives. God is so good that he gave us his most precious gift, his Son. It is easy to think that God does not have my best intentions at heart. Thus I could not believe that he was good. God's goodness is kind and full of good will toward men. God is tenderhearted, full of sympathy and is open frank and friendly to all. He bestows blessings to all and takes pleasure in the happiness of all people. God is infinite, eternal and holy in his goodness. We are the objects of his affection and that will never stop.
God reveals his goodness to us through natural blessings. He also reveals his goodness through a specific deliverance. A classic example of this is Psalm 107 which states to give thanks to the Lord for he is good and his lovingkindness is everlasting. God also reveals his goodness through his Son Jesus.
How are we to respond to God's goodness?. First, we must repent of our unbelief and ingratitude. Second,We must also rest in his goodness when we encounter adversity. Third, we risk stepping out in faith like never before.
The promise from God is that no good thing will be withheld from us from those who walk uprightly in him. God's goodness is unlimited power, wisdom, compassion and an eternal guarantee.
