The author of the book is the Apostle Peter. The book was written in the late 60's AD. This was shortly before Peter's execution. Peter wanted to talk about false teachers in the church. Peter talks about Christian qualities. This includes faith, self control and patience. And also a reliance on scripture. According to Peter, these qualities will help people avoid false teachings. Peter wrote this letter knowing his end was near.
