The author is not stated. According to church tradition it was the Apostle John. The book was written in AD 92. The book talks about that Jesus was a real man. That Jesus was a real God. There was a heresy that Jesus was on earth in spirit not in body. The apostle John knew Jesus personally. John talks about a saving belief in Jesus. Saving belief leads to obedience. When we do sin, God forgives our sin when we confess. This letter from John is warm and compassionate.
