Operation Overlord page 2

Operation Overlord page 2 by ric gustafson

General Dwight D Eisenhower was frustrated. Storms on June 5 was delaying the invasion. The forecast for June 6 was a small window. Eisenhower was a young officer who had chosen a career in the military. He knew that only a cross channel invasion of France and then into the heart of Germany was what needed to be done. The United States and Britain were not ready to fight like that in 1942 or 1943. Eisenhower commanded the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
By 1944, Eisenhower was the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces. He was driven, demanding and full of energy.
After getting the weather report for June 6, he did not hesitate. He said let's go.
