To the Romans, the cross was an abomination. To the Romans, the cross was a brutal way to execute someone. The cross was the most gruesome execution imaginable. The cross was full of bleeding, torture, nakedness and agony. It not only killed but the victim had to endure extreme agony.
The cross was for criminals and hardened criminals at that. Roman citizens were refused to die on a cross. The cross was offensive to Jews also. Jesus's death on a cross had to happen outside of Jerusalem. Jesus died on a cross so we can be with him forever. Praise God.
