In Matthew 13, Jesus describes the kingdom of heaven with three parables. The second parable describes a man who sowed good seed in his field. Then the enemy came and sowed weeds among the good seed.
Satan scatters his unbelievers among us God believers. Satan prowls around us like a roaring lion. He wants to devour us and take us away from God. Jesus in these parables is warning us to be aware and avoid the devil's temptations. Praise God.

Jesus explains that a farmer went out to sow some seed. The seed is the gospel of the kingdom. The soil is the human heart. Some seed was trampled along the path. The seed falls along the path and the birds scoop it up. Some of the seed falls on rocky ground and fades quickly. This seed had no root. The trampled seed represents a hardened heart. The rocky seed represents a shallow heart. Then some seed falls and is strangled by thorns. This represents a strangled heart. Lastly, some seed falls on good soil. This represents an open heart. The question is what soil are we?

The Cross: the way of the cross
The Cross: the way of the cross by ric Gustafson
When we think about the cross, we think of Christian discipleship. Discipleship is forsaking everything to follow Jesus. In today's world, there is a lot of lack of true discipleship. There is a lot of cheap grace today. There is a lack of self examination.
Jesus wants us to say no to self. Jesus wants us to say yes to God.
Above all, we need to constantly keep our eyes up to Jesus and heaven. Praise God.

Jesus was nailed to a cross. After his resurrection, he showed people his scarred hands and feet. The sign above his cross read " Jesus of Nazareth, The King of the Jews". God wanted people to know that his Son Jesus was the true King of Israel. A written code was nailed to that cross. That written code was a bill of debt. This bill of debt is a record of the debt we owe to God.
The good news is that Jesus canceled this bill of debt by dying on this cross. Our debt of sins was payed off and eliminated by Jesus on that cross. Lastly, Jesus on the cross defeated Satan.

After seeing the events going on in this world, there is no peace. There is a peace process but no peace. Humanity is in rebellion against God. Ever since Adam and Eve, there has been war between man and God. Everyone enters this world at war with God. God's Word says we are.
What this world needs is the peace of the cross. We need reconciliation between God and humanity. Our relationship with God can change. Hatred can change to love. Instead of being an enemy of God, we can be friends. We need to be peacemakers not enemies. Praise God.

" Yes Sir". His voice hesitated. " My contacts estimate five Panzer and thirteen infantry divisions are massing near our weakest point".

It was September 1944 and General Georges S Patton was furious. He had ordered part of his Fifth Infantry Division to attack a fort near Metz France. This was Fort Driant. This fort was fortrified by a maze of tunnels that were deep underground. The Germans were waiting for them.
US soldiers came up to massive barb wire surrounding the fort. The Germans opened fire on them with MG 42's, rifles and artillery. Companies E and G were decimated. The attack failed. This was September 27.
On October 3, Patton ordered Baker company and Company E to attack the fort. Patton had received false information. Instead of weak forces, the fort was defended by veteran German forces. Patton was frustrated because lack of supplies was keeping him to only two companies to attack. He wanted to go and direct the battle himself. Because of his safety, he could not go. Because of the massive supply lines, his army had to stop at the German border. He knew it was impossible to capture Fort Driant.
On October 12 1944, Patton admitted defeat and withdrew his forces from Fort Driant. Out of 140 men only 85 remained. Instead he decided to starve the defenders out. This did occur.
On October 13, Patton moved his headquarters to Nancy France.

White helmeted guards were outside the room. " Old Blood and Guts" had many enemies. His biggest enemy was his recovery. When his car collided with a truck full of soldiers, it left him paralyzed from the neck down. His spinal cord was bruised. The doctors were not sure if he would ever walk again.
It was a brutal auto accident. Stitches and bruises covered his head. Patton turned his head to see that his wife was still sitting next to him. Then he began to think about his life.

Morales and his men were now surrounding the two cannon in the courtyard. He heard a noise behind him. A young rebel boy was about to plunge a knife into his back. Then one of his soldiers butted his rifle into the boy's face. The boy ran away.
Alan and Felipe ran past burning barracks toward the west wall. They knew that the north wall was already lost,
Morales grinned as he watched his soldiers break through the front gate.
Alan and Felipe ran past the courtyard cannon. Several dead bodies were around it. One of them was their friend Crockett. Blood was pouring out from three chest wounds.
" He was amazing". Alan exclaimed. " I thought he was already dead".
They ran into the old convent.
Morales and his men pulled up two cannons to the front wooden door.
Alan looked out a window to see the Mexican flag flying over the Alamo.
He knew the end was near.

Felipe heard the bugle. " Alan, look".
His friend looked in horror as hundreds of Mexican soldiers were now climbing the north wall. Both men shot at every Mexican soldier they saw.
Just then, some men joined them from the courtyard. " We are Crockett's men". He grinned. " We ran the Mexicans away from the south wall. He frowned. " I'm sure they will be back". He smiled. " We have come to give you assistance".
Alan, Felipe and Crockett's men shot at all the soldiers trying to reach over the wall.
They did not notice Morales and his men quietly advancing toward the south west corner of the Alamo. Using two ladders, they climbed up the south wall. They encountered no resistance. At the top of the wall, Morales peered below. He noticed the rebels who were cutting down his men under Oradaz.
He raised his sword. " Fire on those rebels".
Those around the cannon heard Morales. They turned in horror. They were now surrounded.

At the same time, Mr Crockett was busy defending the wall he was on. He was killing Mexican soldiers left and right. A Mexican sharpshooter noticed the coonskin cap. A musket ball went into one of Crockett's eyes. He died instantly.

Alan woke up. He heard the bugle. He shook Felipe. " Get up". His voice hesitated. " They're coming".
They watched as several rockets lit up the dark sky. They noticed hundreds of Mexican soldiers advancing slowly toward them.
" I'm scared Alan". Felipe stared at his friend. " I need your Jesus".
Alan watched as skirmishers tried to use one of the ladders to climb up the palisade. They were cut down by some of the defenders.
A petrified look came over Felipe. " Alan, I want to be saved".
A canon went off near their position. It cut down more of Morales's men.
" Felipe, first you must confess to Jesus that you are a sinner".
Alan was now pointing his rifle at the advancing Mexican troops.
" Now you must tell Jesus that you repent of your sins".
The Mexican army was now only 50 yards from the palisade wall.
" Now, ask Jesus to come into your life".
:Felipe closed his eyes. " Jesus come into my life". He began to cry.
Alan hugged his friend as a musket ball went by one of his ears.
" Felipe, welcome to the Body of Christ".
They hugged again as they noticed Mexican soldiers begin to climb up the wall.
They smiled as they leveled their muskets at the top of the wall.

The Alamo was quiet. Only a couple of campfires were still burning. Morales knew only a half hour remained before the attack was to begin.
At two minutes to five, Morales was mad. Why was there no bugle to attack?.
At 5:23, Morales finally heard the bugle.
The attack was starting.

They tell the King that God will keep them safe. God does keep them safe. True faith is knowing that God can do what he says he will do. Praise God.
