people in the Bible: Caiaphas by ric Gustafson
Caiaphas means ' He who Seeks'. Caiaphas was appointed high priest of Israel in AD 18. He became the official head of the Jewish State. He also presided over the Sanhedrin which was Israel's highest court.
After Jesus raised Lazarus from the grave, to Caiaphas he was becoming a threat. Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin planned Jesus's death and gave him an illegal trial.
In AD 36, Caiaphas was removed from office. Nothing more is heard from him again. Jesus, whom he killed, has been reigning in our lives for two thousand years. Praise God.
