people in the Bible: Augustus by ric Gustafson
Augustus means ' the Revered One'. In 27 BC, Octavian took the title ' Augustus' as a part of emperor worship. He decreed that a taxation census should be made for everyone living in the empire. Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Jesus is the revered one because he died on a cross for our sins. Only Jesus can be called ' the Revered One'. Praise God.
