It was May 31 1962. A prisoner was led up some wooden steps. He was stopped in front of a noose that was hung from a iron frame. The prisoner had been waiting for word of an appeal. There was none. Shortly before midnight, the prisoner's legs were tied together to prevent him from kicking. The noose was put on. The prisoner declined a hood.
He was given the chance for last words. " Long live Germany, Argentina and Austria" the prisoner exclaimed. His voice hesitated. " I shall not forget them". The executioner completed his task.
The prisoner was cremated and his ashes were put into a nickel canister. Later, the ashes were sprinkled out at sea. There was no grave and no shrine for Adolf Eichmann.
