Lent 2014 day 27

Lent 2014 day 27 by ric gustafson

Luke 10:41- ' The Lord answered " Martha Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things".

Sometimes we are pressured to get things done. At times, we concentrate on things expected of us and not priorities.
Mary was sitting at Jesus's feet. Martha was getting worried and distracted because her sister was breaking social conventions and expectations.
We were created to have a relationship with God. Mary did the right thing and spent time with Jesus. This story reminds us that we need to examine expectations placed on us. Are these expectations getting in the way of knowing Jesus better?.
I pray that I will spend all of my time with Jesus my Savior.

Moses was resting under a tree when he heard the voice.
" Tell Pharaoh to let my people go".
" He hasn't listened to me yet".
" If he refuses, I will plague his country with frogs".
Later, Moses stood before Pharaoh and delivered the message.
Pharaoh pointed a finger at Moses. " I will not let them go".
As Moses left the outer court, swarms of frogs were already forming. They swarmed so fast nobody could walk without stepping on one. The Egyptians began to grumble because the frogs invaded their homes and they were noisy and smelly.
After a while, Pharaoh could not take it any more. He demanded to see Moses and Aaron.
When the two stood before Pharaoh, he held up a frog by it's legs. " Take these frogs away from me and my people and I will let your people go".
Moses grinned. " I will do as you request so you will know that there is no one like our God".
All the frogs died except the ones in the Nile.
Later, Pharaoh smiled because all was well again. He sneered as he looked up to the sky. " Never will I let the people go".

Luke 9:35- ' Then a voice from the cloud said " this is my Son my chosen one, listen to him".

Peter was not sure what was going on. He and John witnessed Jesus speaking with Moses and Elijah. He knew that Moses had rescued God's people from slavery in Egypt and that Elijah had rescued people in trouble. Peter wasn't sure what to do next so he suggested that he build a hut for the three of them.
All of a sudden, Peter heard God's voice. God told Peter to listen to his Son. Peter thought he knew what was best. A true disciple of Jesus will follow instead of lead.
I pray that Jesus will teach me to truly listen to him at all times.

Francine smiled as she took a cup out of the glass case. She handed it to Davis. " Here's another cup".
He stared at it. " It's beautiful".
" Actually I call it my Chipped Cup". She took it back and pointed at it. " See there's a crack right there".
Darlene looked at it. " Looks beautiful to me".
Francine smiled and took it back. " I look at this cup and think about all of my cracks and chips".
Davis smiled. " My cup is not perfect either".
Darlene raised her hand. " My cup is not perfect either".
Francine smiled and put the cup back into the case. " Do you have time to look at more of my cups?".
Davis glanced at his watch. " Sure".

Mark 8:25- ' He looked with his eyes wide open, his sight was restored and he could see everything clearly'.

In this story, Jesus heals this man twice. This man had faith because he begged Jesus to heal him. So why doesn't Jesus completely restore his sight the first time?.  This man had always been blind and now he had partial sight. He wanted more and asked Jesus to completely give him sight. He could see shadows of people but not their faces. He wanted to see Jesus's face. He desired to see the face of the Son of God. This man wanted to see Jesus completely.
How often do we walk away from Jesus with partial sight. We get caught up in the world and turn away from Jesus. We need to pray to Jesus that he will completely open our eyes so that we can see him clearly and completely.

honor thy father and mother

honor thy father and mother by ric gustafson

Deuteronomy 5:16- ' Honor your father and your mother as the Lord your God has commanded you so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you'.

I just spent the afternoon with my earthly parents and had one of the best times with them that I have ever had. I showed them where my play was going to be and they told me and showed me things I did not know about them. It was a great time.
After reading this commandment from God and the time spent today with them, I believe in my heart that they are a gift to me from God. I do not know how long they will be here until they go home to be with God. But my promise to them and to God is that I will always honor them and honor God's commandment.
Thank you Mom and Dad, I love you.

John 8:7- ' Whoever hasn't sinned should throw the first stone'.

The Pharisees in this story were using the law of Moses to trip up Jesus and discredit him. If he said stone her, he was violating his mercy. If he said let her go, he was violating Mosaic Law. This poor woman was being used in a power play. The Pharisees were willing to have a woman stoned in order to assert their authority.
Jesus knew what they were up to and said the one without sin cast the first stone. If these Pharisees and scribes would claim to be sinless, they would be violating the spirit of God's Law.
Jesus told the woman not to sin any longer.

Goliath: facing worry

Goliath: facing worry by ric gustafson

The word Worry in the bible means to take thought or to be careful. When someone worries, the person's mind is torn and divided. The person fights between the real and the possible the immediate and the potential.
Jesus in Matthew 6 talks about not worrying as part of his Sermon on the Mount. First, Jesus reveals that worrying is inconsistent. Jesus says why would I be careless about little things when it was I who created you. Jesus reveals that worrying is irrational. He explains that we are more valuable to him than sparrows. He reveals that worrying is ineffective. He explains that worrying will not add one cubit to our life. Lastly, he says that worrying is illogical. He went to the cross and died for us so we can be his so worrying he says is useless and illogical.
So how do we fight this giant called worry?. First, we need a system of priorities. We need to ask ourselves what is most important to our heart?. Second, we need a strategy to weed out our worrying. We should not dwell on yesterday's mistakes. Lastly, we need to think about tomorrow and not yesterday or last year.

The throne chair approached the river. This morning Pharaoh was in a good mood. He enjoyed coming down to the river to praise RA the God of the Sun. As they reached the river's edge, a voice startled him.
" The God of the Hebrews has sent me to tell you to let my people go".
He looked at Moses with disgust in his eyes.
" I will strike the water of this river and it will be changed to blood".
Pharaoh sneered. " Your God cannot do that".
Moses looked at Aaron. " Take the staff and stretch out your hand over the water".
Aaron lifted the staff and brought it down on the water. Ripples began to appear and fish began to thrash around. The water became bright red and fish jumped out onto the bank swollen and bloated. A horrible odor rose from the river.
Pharaoh put his hands over his eyes in horror. " Take me away from here".
For seven days, he was perplexed and could not sleep. ' Should I let the slaves go' he wondered as he endlessly paced back and forth in his chamber. Later, he decided what to do. He screamed as he pointed a finger at the sky " I will not give in". " I will not be defeated by their God".

Matthew 14:28- ' Lord, if it's you, order me to come to you on the water'.

The disciples were huddled in a tiny boat on the Sea of Galilee. A storm was causing waves to rock the boat to and fro. Suddenly, they noticed someone was walking across the water toward them. In the ancient world, walking on water was a sign of divinity. They saw that what they thought might of been a ghost was their master Jesus.
Peter wasn't sure if it was Jesus or not. He said " if it is you". Peter go out of the boat and tried to walk on the water to Jesus. If he had faith, he would have stayed in the boat and would not have doubt.
When a storm enters our lives, sometimes we feel as if Jesus is on the other shore. When he does come do we doubt and ask for a sign that it really is him. Jesus wants us to have faith that he will always be there for us and that he will always keep his promises.
I pray that I will never doubt Jesus's presence in my life.

Moses and Aaron now stood before Pharaoh again. Aaron again asked him to let their people go.
" Your God has no power" he retorted in disgust as he laid down on a purple pillow. " Show me a sign".
Aaron threw his staff on the floor and it immediately became a hissing snake.
" This is the sign you were talking about". He frowned and then loudly clapped his hands. " Magicians come here".
A group walked over and surrounded Moses and Aaron's serpent.
Jambres the chief magician led the group as they chanted around the serpent. " Oh mighty Pharaoh, we can also do this". As they chanted. small snakes began to appear from under their robes.
As Moses and Aaron watched, their serpent began to swallow the magicians smaller snakes.
" No more signs" Pharaoh screamed as he stood up. " Get out".
After their meeting with Pharaoh, Moses left to pray to God.
The next morning, he told Aaron what the voice had told him.

Luke 9:13- ' He replied " You give them something to eat".

The disciples had thousands of hungry people to deal with. They only had enough food for five or six. They went to Jesus and explained to him the situation. Jesus asked what they had. He blessed what they had  and they began to feed the people.
As they began handing out the food, a miracle happened. They obeyed their master and Jesus worked a miracle through them. Imagine their surprise at the number of baskets of leftovers that were collected. The little that they had grew into more than enough.
God calls us to do impossible tasks. Logic tells us it cannot be done. When we turn away and say no to God, we discount his power. Jesus can work miracles when we say yes to his call.
I pray that I will believe in Jesus's power and his miracles.

Goliath: facing loneliness

Goliath: facing loneliness by ric gustafson

What is loneliness?. Some call it a sick feeling and some anxiety. Sometimes a certain song or an old memory can trigger it. Sometimes it is a longing for completeness and for some a subtle stress that eventually wears you down.
Who can be lonely?. Some single people become lonely along with some spouses. Losing a soul mate can be lonely along with being a senior citizen. Physical sufferers can get lonely along with servants of God.
There are examples of lonely people in the Bible. King David was lonely along with Jeremiah the Prophet. The Apostle Paul was lonely at times.
How can we deal with loneliness?. First, we need to acknowledge our loneliness. We need to be honest about our feelings. Second, we need to accept God's provision for our loneliness. Only God can solve our problems. Third, we need God's Word to fill our mind and heart. Lastly, we need our Christian friends because loneliness is a choice.

John 4:29- ' Come and see a man who has told me everything I've done, could this man be the Christ?'.

In the time of Jesus, being called a Samaritan was an insult. The Samaritans were people left behind in Judea during the Babylonian exile. When the Jews returned, these people were shunned. No devout Jew would travel through Samaria. At that time, women were considered lesser beings. When Jesus asked this woman for a drink of water, every social convention was being broken. The woman was also being shunned in her own village. She came alone at the middle of the day to avoid others. She had been married five times and living with a sixth.
After Jesus spoke to her, she ran with joy into the village saying that Jesus knew everything about her. Jesus knew her true worth as a beloved child of his. That's why she was filled with joy.
I pray that Jesus will see me and that others will see me as Jesus does.

Goliath: facing discouragement

Goliath: facing discouragement by ric gustafson

The word discourage means to deprive of courage to hinder and to dishearten. The story of Nehemiah is a good example of discouragement at work. First of all, Nehemiah recognized his discouragement. He was fatigued from fifty two days of labor. Second, he knew he was frustrated. He had to deal with massive amounts of rubble and he was beginning to experience burnout. Third, he was beginning to think about failure. Negative talk was affecting him and the people. Fourth, fear was creeping in. Fear encourages discouragement.
How do we respond to discouragement?. First, we need to cry out to God. We need to go to Jesus first and ask for his help. Second, we need to continue what work God gave us to do. Nehemiah did not quit rebuilding the walls. Third, we need to concentrate on the big picture. We need to be open to others and God. Fourth, we need to be encouraged by God's promises. We need to study God's Word for power and hope. Lastly, we need to carry someone else's burden. We need to concentrate on helping others.

John 4:14- ' The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life'.

In the time of Jesus, moving water was known as ' living water'. When Jesus offered living water to a Samaritan woman, she was very puzzled. How could flowing water come from a still well and without a bucket.
Jesus meant more than just ordinary water. He told this woman that anyone who drinks this water will never thirst again. Instead of physical thirst, he was talking about spiritual thirst. He knew that she had a thirsty soul.
We need living water to wash us clean so we can see our true purpose and worth as a believer of God. We need living water to free us from sin and shame.
Lord Jesus, please quench my thirsty soul with your living water.

Moses and Aaron were summoned before the elders of Israel.
" Moses, what have you done to us?". One of the elders pointed a finger at Moses. " You are going to kill us all".
" What happened?".
" Because of your request, Pharaoh has ordered us to use no more straw but we still have to produce as many bricks as before".
Distraught, Moses ran out of the tent to the quiet safety of a nearby tree. He sat down and began to pray. " Oh Lord my God, did you send me to bring trouble and hardship to your people?".
Just like at the burning bush, Moses heard the voice.
" I am the Lord" the voice said with authority. " Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh".
Moses listened intently.
" I will harden his heart and he will not listen to you".
" Oh Lord my God. what can I do?".
" I will send acts of judgment and he will let my people go".
Moses got onto his knees. " Oh Lord my God, mighty is your name".

Goliath: facing fear

Goliath: facing fear by ric gustafson

Fear is the ultimate enemy and we cannot see beyond the bend in the road. God gave fear to us so we can become wise to protect ourselves from the unexpected. Fear is a basic survival instinct that can be good or bad. The bad is that it could become a phobia in our lives. People in the Bible also had fear in their lives. The disciples were fearful of storms, crowds and the loss of their leader.
Fear hampers our freedom of faith. First, fear gets in the way of God's plan for our lives. If fear dominates our life, we cannot claim God's blessings for our life. Second, fear distorts God's purpose for our life. Fear brings out the worst in us. It brings in complaining, distrust and despair. Third, fear discourages God's people. Fear affects everyone around us. Fear could at it's worst breed hysteria. Lastly, fear goes against God's principles. The Bible stresses a little phrase and that is to fear not. God commands us to fear not and to trust him always.
So how do we face fear?. First, we must confront our fear honestly. Fear will not go away on it's own. We need to figure out what is at the root of our fears. Second, we need to treat fear as sin. When we fear we are actually sinning. We need to bring our fears to God as honest confession. Third, God promises his protection from fear. The Bible is filled with God's promises. Lastly, the ultimate fear is death itself. The Apostle Paul wrote that to live is Christ and to die is gain. Jesus dying on the cross for us broke the chains of death and it has no power over us.
In faith, we can tell fear to go away knowing that we will be in heaven forever with God.

Matthew 13:54-55 " Where did he get the power to work miracles? Isn't he the carpenter's son?".

Jesus was rejected in his own hometown. Why was that?. Possibly instead of being just ordinary, people might of been expecting a superhero. Jesus was truly human along with being divine. Instead of being open to his teaching, people were scornful and knew him too well.
Jesus wants to be totally involved in our ordinary lives. He wants to be there in our everyday life no matter what is happening.
Sometimes we wish for a superhero to take away our problems and troubles. Jesus wants to be in our everyday life every day. Our life can change when we recognize him in our simple every day life.
My prayer is that Jesus will open my eyes to see him in my everyday life.

Jesus found this man and confronted him. He knew who Jesus was and recognized his power. He knew he was unworthy and stood right in front of the Son of God.

It was surprising that a Roman soldier would ask Jesus, a Jewish preacher for help. Jesus agreed to heal his servant but was stopped by the centurion. He said that he had authority as a soldier but that Jesus had an even greater authority. The centurion knew that all Jesus had to do was command it and it would be done.

" Very well" he replied with a sigh. " Send them in".
Moses and Aaron walked in and then stopped in front of Pharaoh.
" What do you want?".
" O mighty Pharaoh" Aaron quietly said as he bowed. " Our people did not come as captives but voluntarily because of Pharaoh and Joseph".
He was not interested in ancient history. " Again, I ask what do you want?".
" The Lord God of Israel has revealed himself to us and has commanded us to appear before you".
" Really!". He stood up and pointed a finger at them. " Tell your God that he has no authority here".
Aaron spoke again. " Mighty Pharaoh, the God of the Hebrews wants us to take a three day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to our God".
" Your God!" he screamed. He angrily clapped his hands and two guards appeared. " Guards, get these two out of my sight".

Hernando de Soto had returned to Spain from Peru with a fortune in melted down gold and silver. In 1539, he landed on the west coast of Florida with nine ships and six hundred men. His quest was gold and a shortcut to China. In 1542, de Soto died. He became a moody and discontented man.
In 1526, Lucas Vasquez de Ayllon arrived with six ships and more than six hundred people. In the fall, the colonists suffered from disease, lack of food and the cold. Many people including Ayllon died. In 1528, Panfilo de Narvaez drowned in his attempt to conquer Florida. Only four of 1500 men survived. In 1559, Tristan de Luna y Arellano tried to reach Florida by landing near present day Pensacola. A hurricane destroyed their provisions, supplies and hopes. These Europeans brought smallpox, malaria, typhus, bubonic plague, measles and yellow fever to Florida's original people.

Throughout the Bible, stormy seas meant chaos. Jesus and the disciples were in a tiny boat being battered by a huge storm. They woke up Jesus and let him know how terrified they were. Jesus calmed the Sea and then asked them where is your faith?.
Jesus was questioning their fear. Jesus was with them in the boat yet they were scared and afraid. Even though the storms of life will hit us, Jesus is with us in the boat. The storms do not have ultimate power over us. Jesus, who commands the winds and the water, is in charge of our lives and will keep us safe from harm and Satan.

Matthew 9:6- ' But so you know that the Human One has the authority on earth to forgive sins, get up, take up your cot and go home'.

We are surrounded by miracles. Even though we see these miracles, sometimes we demand more proof  of God's power. We look for miraculous transformations and God glories in lives that are ordinary and explainable. When Jesus healed the paralyzed man's soul, people were not impressed. They were looking for something solid and verifiable while Jesus was healing the man's soul from the inside.
To prove his power, Jesus told the man to get up and go home. When the man stood up and began to walk, then the people believed Jesus. Jesus healed his body and his heart and mind. The grace of Jesus performs miracles every day. What further proof do we need?.

To begin studying this beautiful state, we need to find the fountain of youth. 11 Magnolia Avenue in St Augustine to be exact. When you reach the intersection of Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Matanzas Avenue, you will find an intersection and the beginning of Florida's identity. The Spanish name for Matanzas is slaughter or massacre. You have reached your destination when you come to an ancient arch that says ' Fountain of Youth' at the top. St Augustine was founded in 1565. The first repeat visitors to Florida were Spaniards. They were looking for people to kidnap and enslave.
We first hear of Juan Ponce de Leon in 1492. He sailed with Columbus on his second voyage across the Atlantic. In 1507, the King of Spain gives him a patent to explore Puerto Rico. In 1508, he establishes Puerto Rico's first European settlement. In 1513, Ponce de Leon was given the right  to colonize Florida. He and three ships sailed north to claim the new land. After two months, He rounded Cape Florida and headed up the Gulf Coast.
In 1513, Ponce de Leon was 38 or 39.

The Pharisee in this story did not treat Jesus as an honored guest. He judged Jesus for accepting her display of hospitality. She washed Jesus's feet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
We need the grace of Jesus to stand before God. We cannot be whole without Jesus's forgiveness. We all want to hear Jesus say to us " your faith has saved you, go in peace".

Moses page 16

Moses page 16 by ric gustafson

Moses felt strange as he and Aaron walked into the meeting of the elders of Israel. Since he had been gone for forty years, some of the faces he recognized and some he didn't.
" My brother was told by God to lead us out of the land of Egypt" Aaron said in a confident voice. " To a land that flows with milk and honey".
The assembly was silent.
" God has commanded my brother to go to Pharaoh and demand that the people be released to go into the desert for three days to sacrifice to our God".
" Moses, how do we know that the voice you heard was the voice of the God of Abraham?".
" He told me to tell you that I Am had sent me". Moses stared at the assembly. " He told me he was the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the great I Am".
One of the elders spoke up. " Moses, we need a sign that God has spoken to you".
Moses threw his staff on the ground. It turned into a serpent. The elders cried out in fear. Moses picked it up by it's tail and it became a staff again.
" Moses, the magicians of Pharaoh can do the same thing".
" All things are possible with God" Moses said as he and his brother stood up to leave. " Aaron and I will stand alone before Pharaoh".

Lent 2014 day 6 by ric gustafson

Luke 6:9- ' Jesus said to the legal experts and Pharisees, " Here's a question for you: Is it legal on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it".

According to Old Testament Sabbath laws, this was a time when work was prohibited. During the time of Jesus, Sabbath laws had become legalese. The Pharisees, who were trying to discredit Jesus, were trying to trip him up with their interpretation of religious law. Jesus reminded them of God's Word regarding God's work. He pointed out to them that their is never a bad time to do the work of the Lord.
Jesus wants us to always be doing the work for him. Discipleship means that we look for opportunities to bring his mercy and grace to others. There is no excuse not to do God's work.
During this Lenten season, I pray that I can bring grace and mercy to others.

Luke 5:8- ' When Simon Peter saw the catch, he fell at Jesus's knees and said " leave me Lord for I'm a sinner".

How would you act if you were face to face with Jesus?. Would you be joyful, shy even humbled. When Jesus looked into Peter's face, he saw fear. Peter saw how his entire life would change. Peter did not know that following Jesus would lead him to head the fledgling Christian church. Peter being a simple fisherman would eventually follow Paul throughout Asia.
Jesus saw fear in Peter's eyes and he asked him to leave. Peter knew that his life would completely turn upside down. Jesus provides, forgives, heals and asks us to follow him.
This Lenten season, I pray for the courage for my life to be transformed.

Lent 2014 day 3

Lent 2014 day 3 by ric gustafson

Matthew 4:9- ' He said " I'll give you all these if you bow down and worship me".

Satan was tempting Jesus. The first temptation was to feed the world. It was possible for Jesus to end all hunger. The second temptation was for the entire world to see that Jesus was in fact the Christ. How would the world be different if it knew the love of Jesus. The third temptation was that Jesus could rule the world.
Jesus had to reject all three of these temptations so he could defeat sin and death itself. Jesus had to destroy Satan's power. Without these rejections, there would be no salvation to humanity. The goal of Jesus on the cross is the heart and soul of every human being.
We need to thank Jesus for choosing our salvation over his glory.

Mark 1:11- ' And there was a voice from heaven ' You are my Son whom I dearly love, in you I find happiness'.

There are times in our lives when we leave an identity behind. We graduate, get married and retire. When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, he obtained a new identity. Now, he was to begin his new ministry. This active ministry will lead to a cross and the salvation of the entire human race. As his Father watched from above, Jesus accepted his role. Both knew what this would entail. Jesus would be rejected but the church would be born.
Jesus accepting this ministry would change the world forever one heart at a time. As the Holy Spirit descended on him as a dove, God blessed him from above. Heaven was rejoicing.

Aaron, sore from walking in the desert, sat down on a rock. He could not believe he was doing what he was doing. About a week ago, a dream woke him up and startled his wife Elishiba. A voice in that dream told him to go to the Mountain of God and here he was. He reached a creek and built a small fire. He quietly ate and tried to stay warm. As he tried to fall asleep, he heard a noise nearby. He picked up his staff to use as a weapon.
" Is that you Aaron?".
A figure appeared out of the dark. " Moses?". At the sight of his brother, he dropped his staff and gave him a hug.
" My brother, what brings you out to this desolate place?".
" I had a dream and a voice told me to come out here".
" That was God talking to you".
" Moses, tell me everything that has happened to you out here".
Far into the night, Moses explained to his brother everything including the burning bush and what the voice in the bush had told him.
" Stand in front of Pharaoh" Aaron exclaimed as he poked a stick at the fire. " Moses, he will kill us".
" No, he won't".
" How do you know that?".
" God wants you and me to deliver his people from the Egyptians". Moses grinned at his brother. " We have a specific task at hand".

Luke 2:49- ' Didn't you know that it was necessary for me to be in my Father's house'.

What is our purpose on earth?. Jesus at age 12 had a clear understanding of who he was and what he was to do. He knew that his purpose on this earth was to do the will of God his Father.
His poor parents who were worried about him were trying to locate him. When they did find him, Jesus was puzzled at their reaction. He was unique and was sent to do his Father's work. Jesus was totally obedient to his Father's will which went against human standards. Religious leaders plotted against him and he would eventually die on a criminal's cross. By following his Father's will, he brought salvation to the whole human race.

Francine took out another cup. " I call this cup my Open Cup".
Darlene stared at the pretty designs on it. " Why is that?".
" This cup reminds me that for God to be fully in my life, I must be willing to receive".
Davis scratched his chin. " Willing to receive".
" If my heart and mind are totally receptive, God can communicate with me and nourish me".
Davis looked at the cup. " Are there obstacles to an open cup?".
" Yes, the cup could be cluttered with anxiety, resentment and mistrust".
Davis smiled. " Will the cup ever be empty?".
" It can and then it needs to be refilled".
Darlene handed the cup back to Francine. " What goes into the cup to refill it?".
" When we trust God, he will fill our cup with love, wisdom and God's gifts".
Francine put the cup back into the case. " Do you have time to see another one?".
Davis looked at his watch. " Sure".

Moses kept his head down in fear.
" I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians".
Moses did not look up.
" I will bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey".
He still did not look up.
" Now go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people out of Egypt".
Moses now stood up. " Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt".
" I will be with you". The voice paused. " When you bring the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain".
Moses had a perplexed look on his face. " What will I say if they ask me the name of the one who sent me?".
" Say I am who I am, I am has sent me to you".
" What if they do not believe me?".
" Throw your staff on the ground".
Moses did so and the staff turned into a snake.
" Put your hand inside your cloak".
Moses did so and white spots like leprosy appeared on it.
" If they do not pay attention to either of these signs, take some water from the Nile, pour it on the ground and blood will appear".
Moses stared at the bush. " Lord, please take someone else".
" Take your staff and your brother Aaron the Levite can speak for you".
The bush ceased to burn and the voice fell silent.
