Bambi page 1 by ric gustafson
The baby deer stood on his unsteady legs as his mother washed him off with her gentle tongue. He watched for the first time the thicket and the forest glade where he was. He saw the magpie and the other birds flying overhead. He had a beautiful red coat and a baby face to match. He began to see hazel bushes, tall maple trees and blackthorns. The forest resounded with new sounds of birds including wood thrushs, blackbirds, doves and bluejays. All that the baby deer could feel was his mother's licking of his coat and his mother's body next to his.
" Bambi" the mother whispered as she kept her newborn close to her.
The newborn deer was happy and content.
" My little Bambi".
