Flavius Artemis- the centurion page 9 by ric gustafson
Annas was resting on some big cushions when a servant came in. " Sire, I just heard that someone very important is coming".
Annas began to munch on a grape. " Who is that?".
" Remember that Rabbi from Galilee who caused all that trouble in the Temple that day".
Annas winced because he knew who the servant was talking about. A lot of his wealth came from license fees that he charged the moneychangers who ran the animal trade on the Temple grounds. He was upset because this Rabbi made a whip and turned over the moneychangers tables. He lost a lot of money that day. Even though he was the former chief priest, he still held great power.
Flavius led Jesus by a rope into the torch lit room. Annas could not believe what he was looking at. In front of him stood a young bearded man in tattered clothes and who's face looked like it had been roughed up by soldiers.
" Tell me about your disciples and your doctrine?".
" I spoke openly to the world, why do you ask me ask those who have heard me".
One of the soldiers next to Jesus struck him with the palm of his hand. " Do you answer the high priest like that?".
Jesus turned toward the soldier. " If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil but if well, why do you strike me?".
After a while of trying to get some answers from Jesus, Annas motioned for Flavius. " Take him through the courtyard to Caiaphas's house".
