a walk with Ruth page 4

a walk with Ruth page 4 by ric gustafson

Ruth 1:4 says that they married Moabite women. Not long after Elimelech died, the two boys married Moabite women. There is no word about courtship, personalities or courtship. Nor is there a statement of who married who.
Ruth 1:4 says that one was named Orpah and the other Ruth. Orpah has been translated as obstinacy or stiff necked one. Ruth is translated as lady friend or faithful friend.
Ruth 1:4 says that after they had lived there about ten years. Ten years is a rough estimate and in that time no grandsons were born.
Ruth 1:5 says both Mahlon and Kilion also died. Both sons died and no cause of death given. Naomi remained in Moab suffering from three family deaths.
Ruth 1:5 says and Naomi was left without her two sons or husband. Naomi is now a widow and grieves because she has no sons to carry on the family name.
