works of mercy: counsel the doubtful

works of mercy: counsel the doubtful by ric gustafson

Sometimes counseling is difficult because doubt is not always bad. Matthew 11:3 points out that John the Baptist doubted both Jesus and himself. Matthew 26:31 Jesus warns his disciples including doubting Thomas that all of them would fall away. All christians doubt at one point or another. We might doubt Jesus, the church or the bible and these feelings could be emotions, intellect or will.
We are to worship God with our minds as well as with our hearts. Those who counsel the doubtful need to direct them to the truth. If someone is not interested in the truth, we need to pray for them.
God wants us to be honest doubters and not dishonest ones.
