102 minutes page 3

102 minutes page 3 by ric gustafson

On the 91st floor of the North Tower, Mike McQuaid led his electrical crew toward the stairway. Only one of the three stairwells was still useable. On the 91st floor, the American Bureau of Shipping was the only commercial tenant. The majority of the employees had already gone down the stairwell. McQuaid was concerned. He noticed that above them, the 92nd floor was blocked and no one from the floor would be able to use the open staircase.
In the lobby of the North Tower, Lloyd Thompson was answering calls from the building's intercom system. He was the deputy fire safety director for the North Tower. He ordered an immediate evacuation of the Tower. It was to no avail. The Tower's public address system had already gone down.
As thousands fled the Towers, people in trucks, cars and buses were arriving to help.
