Jesus at this point made two last statements while on the cross. The first is recorded in John's Gospel. Jesus cries out " it is finished". Jesus was not crying out defeat. He was doing what he was doing for a reason. When Jesus uttered these words, what did it mean?. What did he accomplish?. What purpose did dying on the cross mean?.
Jesus's death is an atoning sacrifice to save us. Jesus was a substitute sacrifice to save us from death. Jesus was a sign of God's ultimate triumph over death. Jesus is our Redeemer, Savior, High Priest and Atoning Lamb. Jesus is the Word made flesh. After Jesus said these words, the Temple curtain was torn in two.
