Operation Valkyrie page 3 by ric Gustafson
In January of 1943, Major General Henning von Tresckow was stationed with Army Group Centre on the Russian front. He tried twice to kill Hitler. On March 13 1943 Hitler visited Army Group Centre at Smolensk. Tresckow was to have troops fire on Hitler as he passed by vehicle to his aircraft. At the last moment, Hitler went by another route. The second time Tresckow and Lieutenant Fabian von Schlabrendorff prepared two British bombs that looked like bottles of Cointreau. Schlabrendorff took the parcels to the airport that Hitler's aircraft was take off from. The parcels were activated and put on Hitler's plane. Hitler made it to Minsk because the parcels failed to explode. The duo tried a third time to kill Hitler on March 21 1943. Hitler had planned to tour an exhibition at the Berlin Arsenal which was located on the Unter den Linden. Fellow conspirator Colonel Freiherr Christophe von Gersdorff was to pack explosives around himself and blow Hitler and himself up. Something bothered Hitler because he made a short speech and then did not view any of the exhibits. His visit after his speech was two minutes. It failed and Tresckow quite trying.
