Margaret Tobin Brown page 2 by ric gustafson
Margaret decided to go back to her stateroom to change. Her plan was to go to the church service that morning. She was hoping her friend Emma Bucknell was there. She and Emma had boarded the Titanic together at Cherbourg. They both watched as bags of mail was brought unto the huge liner. Emma told Margaret that she had a premonition about the liner. Nonsense Margaret reassured her. Margaret knew that Emma had a large family waiting for her return.
When Margaret stopped at the entrance to the first class dining saloon, Captain Edward Smith greeted her. Margaret knew the Captain from a previous trip on the Olympic. The Olympic was Titanic's sister ship. Margaret walked inside. The tables had been removed. Chairs had been set up in front of a podium. First class passengers sat in the front. Second and Third class passengers sat in the back.
In the shirt pocket of the Captain was a message from Wireless Operator Bride. It read ' watch for bergs, growlers and field ice'.
The service ended with the hymn ' O God Our Help In Ages Past'.
Margaret returned to her stateroom.
