Starting with Genesis 12, we read about one family. It is led by a man named Abram. He is from Ur of the Chaldees. God promised three things to Abram. God promised him land and he had to leave his home. God promised to make Abram a great name and that he will father a nation. He blessed Abram.
Abram moves with his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot and other relatives.
When they reach the area around Shechem, God tells them to stop. This was their land. Abram built altars and offered sacrifices to God.
