In 1803, President Jefferson purchased 828,000 miles of land west of the Mississippi River. He paid France fifteen million dollars or roughly four cents per acre. President Jefferson used his executive power. Jefferson used the national bank to advance his own personal agenda. Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase was ratified on October 20 1803 by the Senate.
President Jefferson got back at Alexander Hamilton by eliminating his whiskey tax. He reduced the national debt. To explore the land of the Louisiana Purchase, Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
When Jefferson is elected for a second term, he is 61 years old. His behavior becomes eccentric. When his time in office was finished, President Jefferson was anxious to return to Monticello.
His coach came to take him home. The country waited patiently for the next President.
