Andy and Don page 3

Andy and Don page 3 by ric gustafson

Andy Samuel Griffith was born on June 1 1926. Andy's parents Carl and Geneva Griffith lived on the south side of Mount Airy North Carolina. The neighborhood where the Griffith's lived was home to people who worked at the local hosiery mills and the furniture mills. Andy's father Carl worked at one of the furniture mills.
Young Andy had blonde hair and was an only child. Andy's mother pampered him. She sewed Andy's clothes. He was not like the other boys. He did not stay out late or run wild. He seldom got dirty. He was clumsy. The other boys thought he was spoiled. For Andy, it was a constant battle with bullies. Andy was shy, scraggly and not sure how to express himself.
In grammar school, Andy told funny stories to make the kids laugh and like him. Andy did this for self protection. Andy only lived a half mile south of Rockford Street Grammar School.
Andy loved his father. He would sometimes come to the furniture factory and watch his father work. Thanks to Andy's mother, there was always music playing in their home.
