Pulling up to the 505 Club, John Belushi was happy. He had just performed a night of improv with the Toronto Second City troupe. The 505 Club was an after hours speakeasy. One of the Second City performers that night was Dan Aykroyd. He was usually shy around new people. For some reason, he felt at ease around John. The two felt an instant bond.
Dan and John talked for hours. John loved the blues records Aykroyd was playing on the club's phonograph. John told Dan he was from Chicago. Dan played for John blues records by Fenton Robinson and Magic Slim.
Dan told John about an idea he had for an R and B duo modeled on Sam and Dave. One of the two had been in Joliet Prison. A friend Howard Shore suggested the two call themselves ' The Blues Brothers'.
Both Aykroyd and Belushi loved that name.
