Holy Land page 1 by ric gustafson
I walked into the Mishkenot Sha'ananim. It 's a restaurant that looks like a guest house. It looks like a small private hotel. It caters to artists, authors, musicians and thinkers. The restaurant was maybe twenty tables. Each table had a crisp white tablecloth and a small vase of fresh flowers in the center. It was early in the morning and only one person was there. After saying Shalom, he told me to take any table I wanted. I looked out at the walls of the old city which was only 300 yards away. To the left was a low rocky valley. Limestone walls were white and streaked with age. Other limestone buildings included a white belltower, a blue cone roof on another white building. You could see Mount Zion itself.
He puts a napkin and utensils on the table. He pulls out a chair. " Coffee?.
" Yes and Bevakasha please".
And then I look behind him. The breakfast buffet.
