In Hebrews 12, the word discipline is used. It refers to teaching and instruction. It is also connected to chastisement and correction. The Apostle Paul uses the word in II Timothy 3. Paul describes the Word of God as an instrument for our discipline.
God uses discipline to train us in the way of righteousness. To make us holy. Sometimes it is instructional. Sometimes it is correcting. God disciplines us. He does not punish us. God disciplines us because we are his children. God does this out of love. God's discipline has an eternal goal in mind. God's discipline is to make us more like his Son. God loves us more than anything else.
