The song was written in October of 1965. John tried to write this song for over 5 hours. Then he left in desperation and had a lie down. He was worried that he would never be able to write another song. He thought of himself as a nowhere man sitting in his nowhere land. The song was about John's lack of self worth. The song was on the Rubber Soul album. It was released in December 1965.
