At an art party in Liverpool, Paul got the inspiration to write this song. He wanted to amuse his friends by writing what sounded like a French song. The title of the song was a French name. The words in the song were French. John suggested a bluesy number instead of a straight ballad. Paul was inspired by the finger picking of Chet Atkins. The song was on the Rubber Soul album which was released in Dec of 1965.
