Wallenberg page 2 by ric Gustafson
It was April 21 1944. Rudolf Vrba and Fred Wetzler were drinking sherry in Zilina Slovakia. They were celebrating the fact that they had just escaped from Auschwitz. Then they began to tell the Jewish leaders what was going to happen shortly to Hungary's Jews. They gave them a detailed report of what they experienced in the camp and what was going to happen to the Jews of Hungary. At first, the leaders did not believe them. But their detailed report changed their minds. Later, the two young men found out that the Jewish leaders were not informed of the Germans plan. The leaders instead tried to negotiate with Adolf Eichmann. The fate of Hungary's Jews was set.
