70's tv: Barney Miller by ric gustafson
Barney Miller was about a fictional New York City police precinct. The cast was diverse. It included a Hispanic, an Asian and an African American. The show was one of the best written and smartest sitcoms of the 1970's. It covered crime with humor and pathos.
The show was a mid season replacement in 1974- 1975. Starring Hal Linden. Supporting actors included Abe Vigoda, Gregory Sierra, Jack Soo, Ron Glass and Max Gail.
The show won several writing and directing awards in eight seasons. It won an Emmy in 1982 for best comedy.
