I found the Titanic

It was 11:40 pm on April 14 1912. Fred Fleet was up in the Crow's Nest of the Titanic. It was bitterly cold out. Fleet and the other lookout were tired and cold. Both men were anxious to end their watch for the night. It had been a quiet one. The sea was dead calm.

Suddenly, Fleet saw something. It was a huge dark shape. It was directly ahead of the ship. Fleet knew what is was. He quickly sounded the alarm bell three times. He picked up the phone.

The duty officer answered. " What did you see?".

" Iceberg right ahead".

The officer on the bridge ordered the wheel turned as far as it would go. The engine room was told to reverse the engines. A button was pushed to close the doors to the watertight compartments.

Everyone waited. Did they avoid disaster?.
