For cartoonist Charles Schulz, his problems were mounting. The 42 year old did not feel well. He had lost 20 pounds. He felt nervous, anxious and reluctant to leave home. In the summer of 1965, Schulz's doctor could find nothing physically wrong with the cartoonist.
Schulz knew what was wrong with him. In his life was a lot of stress. He suffered from an anxiety disorder for years. He was a WW II veteran. He suffered from PTSD.
He also had a lot of stress because he was asked to create a television Christmas special. To Schulz, the new project was ambitious and risky.
