Beatles the early years page 11

Beatles the early years page 11 by ric gustafson

In 1954, three musical events shaped the lives of John, Paul, George and Richy. First, on April 12 a group called Bill Haley and the Comets recorded a song called ' Rock Around The Clock'. The song ignited a phase that had been around for decades. This phase was called ' Rock and Roll".
In July, a 19 year old singer and a guitarist would enter a Memphis Tennessee music studio and recorded four songs. The lads had never encountered anyone like Elvis Presley. The lads heard ' That's All Right' and ' Blue Moon of Kentucky'. The lads could not get enough of Elvis Presley.
Finally, at a time when the lads first noticed Elvis, a singer and guitarist named Lonnie Donegan began toying with home based instruments. This sound had actually started in the 1920's in Chicago. These home based instruments included standup basses and washboards. Now thanks to Lonnie Donegan, this loose jazzy band sound was becoming more popular.
John, Paul, George and Richy were starting to take notice.
