They went to the circus each summer. Johnny saw fourth of July fireworks. Johnny went to the August County fair.
Johnny's father Homer Carson was a local manager for the Iowa Nebraska Electric Light and Power company.
The Carson's home in Avoca was at 725 Cherry Street. Johnny's mother Ruth Carson was a proper lady. The Carson family had roots in England and Ireland.
In October 1933, Homer Carson moved his family to Norfolk Nebraska. Johnny was 8 years old. Ruth Carson enrolled Johnny at Grand Elementary School. Johnny was shy. Deep down, he wanted to be in front of an audience. He wanted to be in control. Johnny had friends. He did not have a best friend. He never got that close to people.
