a Charlie Brown Christmas page 13 by ric gustafson
Mendelson entered a restaurant in San Francisco. The upscale eatery was called Original Joe's. There Mendelson met Vince Guaraldi. Mendelson immediately liked him. The jazz musician had long sideburns, black eyeglasses and a large mustache.
Mendelson explained to the jazz musician that he was producing a documentary about Peanuts creator Charles Schulz. Mendelson asked Guaraldi if he was interested in working on a soundtrack for the documentary. The jazz musician said yes right away. He loved Peanuts and read it to his two young children.
About 2 weeks later, Guaraldi was also driving over the Golden Gate bridge. Inspiration hit him. Right away, he began composing a tune. When he was finished with it, he played it for Mendelson. The producer was enchanted by what he heard.
' A Boy named Charlie Brown' was never sold. Guaraldi's song was put into the Charlie Brown Christmas Special. The song was titled ' Linus and Lucy'
