The first person signed to George's Dark Horse label was Ravi Shankar. George decided to name his next album Dark Horse as well. A tour was planned for 43 cities in November and December 1974. For a touring band, the first person George picked was a saxophonist from California named Tom Scott. George wanted Dark Horse to be run different than Apple.
Dark Horse opened an office in Los Angeles in August 1974. One day, George surprised everyone by showing up alone. A female in the Marketing Department named Olivia Arias was happy to show him around. The 26 year old Arias was from a Mexican family. Her father was a dry cleaner. Her mother was a seamstress. Smitten, George asked her to work for him. When ' Dark Horse' was released, the reviews were dismal and sales were low.
To George, his 1974 Dark Horse tour was a tiresome chore. He was fighting throat problems and chain smoking. The only positive for George was Olivia Arias. They were always together. George was invited to visit Gerald Ford in the White House. On December 15 1974, John Lennon and May Pang saw George's show on Long Island.
